Introduction to perioperative trauma

Perioperative trauma is one of the most common obstetric complications related to delivery. It can occur spontaneously in the form of perineal tear or secondary to obstetric intervention like operative delivery, either instrumental or caesarean section.
Most often the trauma is minor but some may be associated with rapid deterioration of the clinical condition secondary to haemorrhage. It is important to recognise these complications and manage them appropriately.
